Radio
Control (RC) flying is a wonderful hobby that provides enjoyment
for a lifetime--but like anything else, it takes a lot of practice
to become proficient. When flying an RC plane, you have to
depend on sights and sounds from an inertial frame of reference.
In other words, how the airplane looks and sounds will indicate
how it is responding to your controls, and provides you with clues
as to what to do next. Until you become practiced at responding
to the plane's movements and learn what the proper corrections are,
you're going to need some help! Our instructors can help you
learn to fly and have fun in as short a time as possible.
To get started in the hobby, you'll need:
- A
stable self-correcting airplane that will allow you to learn without
crashing immediately! Specifically, you need a high wing
trainer. We all start out with them, and many love them
so much they still fly them years later!
- An
instructor to teach you the ropes, guide you and take over your
plane when you get confused.
To join the Wausau R/C Sportsmen, send an email to us and we will
happily answer your questions. You will also need a membership
to the Academy of Model Aviation (AMA) . The AMA is the national
organization for this sport. One of the many benefits of being a
member of AMA is liability insurance.
In addition to AMA membership, there is an annual membership fee
of $35 for the Wausau R/C Sportsmen club to help maintain the field
and cover operating expenses.
We
have an application form prepared that you can view, print, fill
